Nigerian Army Sensitization Seminar for Social Media Infuencers/Bloggers and Civil Organizations in Sokoto

The Nigerian Army(NA) has today 3 June 2022 held the 20th Edition of the Social Media Seminar for Social Media lnfluencers /Online Bloggers and Civil Society Organizations in Sokoto. The Seminar was aimed at enlightened participants on the Civil-Military Cooperation activities of the Nigerian Army as part of the Non-Kinetic lines of operations and effects of negative media reportage.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya who was ably represented by the Chief of Civil Military Affairs (CCMA) Major General Markus Kangye while addressing the participants at Sokoto Guest Inn, Sokoto noted that the seminar which started in 2018 was one of the ways the NA interacts with the civil populace to foster a harmonious and cordial civil military relations.

Accordingly, the CCMA urged the social media influencers /Online bloggers and Civil Society Organizations to rally support for the Nigerian Army and also enlighten the populace on the dangers of misinformation and fake news syndrome.

Major General Kangye noted that the seminar became necessary having understood that millions of Nigerians relied on the social media platforms as their sources of information. Hence, the need for the influencers and online journalists to fact-check every information before sharing them on their various social media platforms and websites.

During the seminar, 2 papers were delivered titled “Harnessing the Influence of Social Media in Showcasing the Nigerian Army’s Civil-Military Cooperation by Dr Nasir Daniya , Director General ICT Directorate Sokoto State. The second paper titled, ” Civil-Military Cooperation As a Veritable Tool for Improving the Image of Nigerian Army and Perception Management” was delivered by Maj Gen AA Ariyibi, the Deputy Chief of Transformation and Innovation(Army). This was followed by an interactive session where most of the bloggers and social media influencers and members of Civil Society Organizations cleared their doubts on Nigerian Army’s activities.

lmportant dignitaries that graced the occasion include the General Officer Commanding 8 Division Nigerian Army, Maj Gen UU Bassey, the Director Civil-Military Affairs Headquarters Nigerian Airforce Air Cdre AE Nweke, Commander 119 Composite Group Nigerian Airforce Sokoto Air Cdre A Bot and Director Psychological Operations Army Headquarters Department of Civil-Military Affairs Brig Gen O Adegbe Others include representatives of Heads of Security Agencies.Social Media Influencers, Online Bloggers and members of Civil Society Organizations in Sokoto State.

The Climax of the event was the presentation of certificates of attendance and souvenirs to important dignitaries that graced the occasion.
